Ana Sheila Victorino and Brenda Gonzalez, Tamarindo Podcast

The Latina-hosted community empowerment podcast aims to change the face of podcasting

LOS ANGELES, CA (Jan 11, 2023) – Tamarindo, a Latina-hosted community empowerment podcast, kicks off a new season of episodes discussing culture, advocacy, and self-development tools and practices to uplift the Latine/x community. More than a podcast, Tamarindo wants to diversify the podcast space by offering a donation-based podcasting workshop on January 26 at 5:30 p.m. p.s.t. hosted virtually. Co-founded by wellness entrepreneur and life coach Ana Sheila Victorino, and civic engagement advocate and writer Brenda González, Tamarindo is changing the face of podcasting by centering BIPOC voices, experiences, and perspectives.

“We co-founded Tamarindo, LLC with a mission to use laughter and conversation to inform, inspire and positively impact our community. We’re excited to continue to do just that with our new season of Tamarindo and our first podcast workshop of 2023,” said Brenda González, co-founder of Tamarindo. “We want to disrupt the podcast space by centering the experiences not often heard on mainstream media and to share what we’ve learned with those who want to break into the podcasting world.”

“We’ve been able to build community across the country and even internationally by introducing listeners to incredible changemakers like activist Mónica Ramirez and non-binary/gender-fluid actor and activist Vico Ortiz,” said Ana Sheila Victorino, co-founder of Tamarindo. “Tamarindo uplifts the experiences and voices that I wish I had more of growing up as a queer, immigrant, and recovering overachiever.”

Guests this season include Gentefied star actress Annie G. Gonzalez; economic development leader and MacArthur genius José Quiñones; and artist Johanna Toruno, creator of the Unapologetic Street Series. Topics include community advocacy, personal development and growth, diversity and representation in media, the dangers of diet culture, as well as lighthearted commentary on current events, identity, and life. Tamarindo’s co-host share a background as immigrants from Mexico who grew up navigating the ‘ni de qui, ni de alla’ experience that many listeners connect with.

“Immigrant empowerment is an important component of Tamarindo and the vilification of immigrant communities in mainstream media is part of what we push against through our podcast and platform,” said González who is formerly undocumented.

Kicking off the first season of 2023, Tamarindo released its 146th episode featuring queer filmmaker Armando Ibañez, and critic and journalist Cristina Escobar discussing their favorite shows and movies of the past year. Listen to the episode across podcast platforms and at tamarindopodcast.com
