FEATURES ECLECTIC LINE-UP OF GLOBAL MUSIC

The Free DTLA Concert Series begins June 4, and runs until September 24, 2022

LOS ANGELES – (May 18, 2022) Grand Performances, the longest-running presenter of free concerts in downtown Los Angeles, today announced the line-up for its upcoming 2022 season.

Grand Performances (GP) 36th annual summer concert series features an exciting, eclectic line-up of global music, dance, poetry, theater and family programming, running every Saturday from June 4 to September 24 at California Plaza in the heart of DTLA.

With music from across Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, GP’s 2022 Summer Season brings together a diverse mix of genres and generations, from cumbia to classical, funk to folkloric, jazz to jam bands, and everything in between.

“This summer feels like a homecoming celebration – a new renaissance of live music in downtown Los Angeles,” explains GP’s Creative and Artistic Director Stewart Irel. “After going through all the pandemic closures and social distancing, this is our chance to come together again and reconnect through the joy of music, dance and the performing arts.”

Highlights of the 2022 season include Indian virtuoso Aditya Prakash on June 11, viral funk sensation Scary Pockets on July 9, Filipina singer-songwriter Melissa Polinar on August 6, and Latinx DJ collective Cumbiatón on September 17.

This summer, GP continues its long-running history of partnership with cultural institutions, including the City of Los Angeles (COLA) Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) on June 4, Pakistan Arts Council on July 23, and Farhang Foundation on August 20. KCRW’s Summer Nights returns to Grand Performances once again for two shows on July 30 and September 3.

There are also two tribute shows on the calendar this summer at GP.  On June 25, Boleros de Noche presents A Tribute to Agustín Lara, featuring Musical Director Marco Godoy, singer Julian Torres, and mariachi trio ELLAS.  On August 27, dublab presents a tribute to Alice Coltrane featuring Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Surya Botofasina.

All of GP’s events are free, outdoors and all-ages, but for Father’s Day Weekend, GP invites families with young children for a special early-afternoon celebration with live music by Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band and kids dancing with DJ KG Superstar on June 15 at 2pm.
